2012...

Happy New Year!  Yes I realize that I have abandoned BC in the last few hectic months. My resolutions for the new year include being a better blogger. 2011 was a great year, for the most part. I was able to have time to do some crafting, enjoy my lovely family and even managed to lose some weight.

I wanted to share some blogs/websites that I learned about last year that I have been inspired by. First of all is Pinterest, If you haven't seen it than you are missing out. Be prepared to spend a few hours browsing it's amazing contents. (Don't blame me if you become addicted!) Here is link to my boards if you are interested in checking them out.

Here are a few more blogs/sites that you might find interesting!

Macarons....It's about time!

Sorry for the long break. I have been wanting to post numerous times but it just hasn't happened. So.....Macarons, I've had these on the brain for a long time thanks to Pinterest, and nearly every other blog out there. They look so lovely and yummy, how hard could they be to bake? I like to consider myself a decent baker....well they were tougher than I thought. My friend Jess and I set out on a quest to make us some macarons, neither of us had ever tried much less baked them.  We found a great site that had lots of info about making macarons, check it out here. The first batch was a MESS....not pretty, and they were flat and tasted like cotton candy.  First Lesson: Always follow the exact directions and timing when beating the egg whites.

Determined to not let the first batch discourage us we made attempt #2.  These were much better. More like what they were suppose to look like and tasted pretty good. Second Lesson:We tried to split the batch to make 2 different colors, not a good idea unless you weight the amounts so you know exactly how much is half. The green colored ones were close to being right, the pink didn't have enough of the egg mixture so they were like little meringues. Basically we were pleased that we created some that looked almost perfect.

On a different afternoon I decided to try my hand at making them again There went attempt #3, how could this wrong, I have done this 3 times now....somehow it went terribly wrong.  Lesson #3: Go and buy a small kitchen scale so that you can accurately measure your ingredients. These were so bad....inedible and they looked like mutant little orange crackers.(I did not take of photos of this batch, I was too distraught.)

I was more determined than ever. I even went and bought almond flour to see if that would help the overall result. The last time(s) I had used ground almonds...from almond slices, not a good idea you unless you want little speckles in your macarons. You can buy blanched almonds and then grind them too. Attempt #4, I was oh so careful about everything, also swearing that this just might be the last attempt if they failed yet again. As I went to open the oven door I think I heard angels sing...

Farmer's Market

Summer is here! It's really been heating up around here lately, and the wind has died down just a bit. Last weekend my friend Jess invited me to join her booth at the local Farmer's / Craft Market. She created beautiful cards and photo prints. We had a great time, even with the random wind gusts trying to blow everything away. It was a nice mix having the cards and jewelry/sewing items together. Thanks Jess for inviting me!

End of the Week

This week is almost over…thank goodness, and my 1 year old has finally slept through the night for 3 nights in a row…Yea. This is a huge accomplishment for him, and I am so excited to finally sleep again, I feel like a new woman!

The last few weeks have been busy around our house. We spent Easter weekend with my family in Phoenix. While visiting I took my jewelry to a boutique to see if they would be willing to sell my jewelry…and sure enough they were. I am so excited! Now I just need the time to make more jewelry. The name of the store is Elaine Todd’s Distinictive gifts, in Mesa, AZ. If you are ever in that neck of the woods check it out, she has lots of fun stuff.

One of my latest projects was creating a home for my ipad. I looked at lots of different designs and decided to just make my own pattern that would allow space for the stylus and a pocket for the power cables and attachments.  I also wanted it to have handles so that I could carry it in a larger bag or just on it’s own.   I thinking about drawing up the pattern and selling it on Etsy….we’ll see. What do you think???

Hope you all had a great Easter!!!!

Welcome

Welcome to Blissful Creations thanks for stopping by. Blissful is still in it's humble beginnings but I have great plans for this little creative blog. So I hope you come back now and then to see how it has grown.

A little bit about me....I have always loved making crafts, even as a little girl it's how I spent a vast majority of my time. As a grew up I knew that I wanted to have a career in a field were I could still use my creative talents. My older sister was a great mentor for me, she worked in the graphic design field and it inspired me to chose that as my career. Fast forward many years later...I couldn't be happier, I have a job that I love, 2 amazing little boys and the best husband that lets me spill my creative messes all over the house. Working pretty much full time and keeping up with 2 little ones doesn't allow for much free time for creative projects, but I manage to squeeze them in somehow. I wanted to start this blog to share my creative endeavors, other amazing that I find across the web, and just things in general that inspire me.

If you would like to visit my photos on flickr click here.

-enjoy!

Jewelry Preview

In the last few months I have been working on new necklace and earring designs. They are a variation of the paper jewelry that my Sister-in-law Theresa and I made last year. I am still trying to get enough stock made to fully open our Etsy store. Stay tuned for the opening of Blissful Creations on etsy!
